Streets parties will be held and the bunting will be hung out in two Newton Abbot streets when double yellow lines will be painted on the road.

Cllr Gordon Hook made the remark at the Teignbridge HATOC meeting last Thursday when the committee were discussing a list of roads for which new Waiting Restriction Proposals had been outlined.

Cllr Hook said: “Streets parties will be held and the bunting will be hung out in Shaldon Road and Haytor Drive as a result of this, and it will make a significant difference to the lives of the residents.

They were two of the 69 roads on which new waiting restriction proposals or the introduction of double yellow lines would be agreed.

A total of £12,500 will be spent on the roads and the meeting heard that exactly where and the length of the lines would be discussed with individual councillors at a later date.

Cllr Rosalind Prowse also asked whether Devon County Council had any mechanism of getting money back from residents who ignored signs telling them not to park their car on the road when signs were up telling people that the painting of double yellow lines would happen.

But she was told that the council could not reclaim any compensation as because there are no restrictions on parking on the road until the yellow lines had been painted, there is nothing legally stopping them from parking there.
