Shocking footage shows motorcyclists riding on pavement within feet of mother and baby

Bikers who were filmed riding over pavements close to a family with a buggy in Paignton have been blasted on social media.

The video above and below was filmed on the same day that a motorcyclist died in Paignton, as hundred of bikers attended the first day of the BMAD Bike, Beer & Music Festival – billed as the biggest event of its kind in the Westcountry.

It’s not known at this stage if the 48-year-old biker who died was one of those heading to the fesitval.  The collision at Tweenaway Cross junction of Totnes Road and Borough Road happened at about 5pm on Saturday, May 4.

Emergency services took the biker to Torbay Hospital, but he was pronounced dead later on Saturday night.

The huge BMAD (Bikers Make a Difference) festival has grown out of fundraising social evenings on Paignton Green which help sick, disabled and disadvantaged young people.

While many people support the good work done by BMAD, others who witnessed convoys of bikes were angry that they appeared to ignore red lights and ride across pavements.

One video was sent to Devon Live by Tony Bullman who said: “Hello please find attached a video of bikers going to the BMAD festival today, narrowly missing a lady with a child in a buggy.

“I have also witnessed a number bikers riding around the Paignton area today casually going through red lights and on the wrong side of the road.”

It shows bikers taking a shortcut over the pavement on the corner near Victoria Park, within feet of a mother with a baby in a buggy.

BMAD says it has grown to be probably the biggest biker, music and beer festival in the South West.

They also have regular Bike Nights running from the beginning of June until the end of September on Wednesday evenings from 6pm.

Last summer a 57-year-old Exeter motorcyclist died in a bike convoy during the annual Devon Air Ambulance charity rideout which ends in Teignmouth.

The organisers of BMAD have been contacted for a comment.
